Introduction

Thank you for applying to work as a Green Cabs’ rider. The information below explains what you need to do to start working.

Basic requirements

You need:

  • To understand the general road rules and be able to ride a bike
  • to be a ‘people person’
  • to be able to work on the weekends as it’s the busiest time

How it works

Green Cabs (GC) does not employ you. You work as a self-employed contractor who hires a cab from GC by paying a ‘weekly lease’ fee. Your first week’s lease fee is free!  to help you get started. After your initial full week of riding you may have the option of hiring cabs for full or half week periods, or for weekends.

Current lease fees

Please refer to the attached indicative lease fees file to give you a general idea of what your lease may cost at different times of the year.

Lease fees are subject to change depending on current business conditions. Riders receive at least one week’s notice before fees change.

Lease fee payments

All leases are paid in advance by bank transfer two days before your shift. You will have the first week for free.

Late payments incur a 10% late payment fee.

Bond

There is no bond commitment for your start, Green Cabs provide you with the gear for your start, and all we ask is to you return it on the same conditions as you received it.

If you lose, damage or wear out any of the kit items we issue new riders at training (see Rider’s kit info below, GC charges a replacement fee

Income

An average rider who works on the Fridays and Saturdays afternoon/night week can expect to take approximately 3 or more times the weekly lease fee they paid. Your income is ALL that you take in fares while riding. Income will vary according to:

  • your experience
  • your sales ability
  • your fitness

Rider’s kit

GC lends all riders a basic kit (uniform and gear).

It includes:

  • 1 pair of shorts
  • 1 short-sleeved shirt or singlets
  • 1 jacket
  • 1 helmet
  • 1 multi-tool
  • 1 black water bottle

The kit must be returned to GC in good condition when you leave. If any items are worn out, damaged or not returned with your kit, the replacement cost will be deducted.

Training

All riders must complete a training session before they start working. Please check the email you received for the training time. It’s held at our depot at Kennards Self-Storage on the corner of Bank and Mollison St, West End. We can arrange a mutually suitable alternative training time if needed.

Shifts

During a regular week, most full week GC riders will work the following hours:

  • Fri – from 3 pm up until 1 am
  • Sat – from 10 am up until 1 am
  • Sun – from 11 am up until the early evening
  • Weekday hours of your choice

Riders are encouraged to work during the week – especially during events and school holidays. Ultimately you work the hours that suit you.
