Introduction

Thank you for your inquiry to ride for Green Cabs (GC). Please read the following information.

Basic requirements

You need:

  • a car driving licence (any country or international is OK) or a learner’s permit.
  • to be a ‘people person’

Costs

Lease fees: GC does not employ you. You work as a self-employed contractor who hires a cab from GC by paying a ‘lease’ fee. At Surfers Paradise we lease cabs by the week. The cab lease week runs from Wednesday – Tuesday (ie your booking starts on a Wednesday). Lease fees are subject to change depending on current business conditions. Riders receive at least one week’s notice before fees change.

Current lease fees

Please refer to the attached indicative lease fees file to give you a general idea of what your lease may cost at different times of the year.

Lease fees are subject to change depending on current business conditions. Riders receive at least one week’s notice before fees change.

Lease fee payments: All leases are paid in advance by bank transfer two days prior to your shift. Late payments incur a 10% late payment fee. No lease payment = no cab

Bond: You must also pay a fully-refundable $150 bond before you are trained. When you leave GC, your bond will be refunded to your bank account minus the following costs (if they apply):

  • *$?? – outstanding lease fees: *if you fail to give one weeks’ notice before you leave GC will take the full cost of the week’s lease from your bond.
  • *$?? – kit replacement: if you lose, damage or wear out any of the kit items we issue new riders at training (see kit info below: kit = gear + uniform) , GC charges a replacement fee.
  • *$?? – repairs or losses which are not deemed by GC to be natural wear and tear: regardless of whether you, your customer or a third party damages the bike whilst you are using it, the cost of repairs will come from your bond. (ie, you are responsible for the safety of the bike during your shift).
  • *$?? – outstanding fines: per the GC Rider Contract (signed at training)

Most riders who look after their gear and cab,  don’t break GC rules and give GC one weeks’ notice before they leave, will get the maximum refund of $150 when they leave.

Income

An average rider who works a minimum of 30 hrs per week should expect to take 2 or 3 times, and sometimes 4 times the lease fee paid. Your income is ALL that you take in fares while riding. Income will vary according to:

  • your experience
  • your sales ability
  • your fitness

Rider’s Kit

GC lends all new riders a basic kit (uniform and gear).

It includes:

  • 1 pair shorts
  • 2 short sleeved shirts or singlets
  • 1 jacket
  • 1 GC rider ID
  • 1 helmet
  • 1 multi-tool
  • 1 black water bottle

The kit must be returned to GC in good condition when you leave. If any items are worn out, damaged or not returned with your kit, the replacement cost will be deducted from your bond – see General GC Riders Page for kit item costs, which are cheaper than retail prices.

Training

All riders must complete a training session before they start working for GC. Training is held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:00 – 6:00pm on Upper Level 2 at the Bruce Bishop Carpark, Beach Road, Surfers Paradise. New riders begin their first shift immediately after training.

When you attend training please bring:

  • passport or drivers licence
  • a minimum of $50 change for when you start riding after 6:00pm
  • any other items you may need to start working

Please wear:

  • jogger style shoes
  • old, loose comfortable clothing (that may get grease stained as we practice minor repairs)

Shifts

At Surfers Paradise our operating permit allows GC to operate from 6pm-6am (ie at night only). You can work 7 nights per week.
