Lease payment
Brisbane, Surfers Paradise and Melbourne all have different bank accounts. Please see your original New Rider Information page (Brisbane, Surfers Paradise and Melbourne) for specific bank account details.
Please name your payment ‘your name’ when transferring the funds.
Cancellations
Various cancellation policies apply according to your location – please ask your area manager.
Note: To cancel your lease, email your area manager. The local area cancellation policy applies regardless of any circumstance experienced by the rider.
Bad weather
To help riders with bad weather, GC has two types of bad weather credit:
- Rain credit – given for a shift that is cancelled (by a manager) before it can start
- Shower credit – given after there was wet weather in a shift that was not cancelled
Rain/shower credit periods: Rain/shower credit normally applies only over the weekend:
- Surfers Paradise: Friday and Saturday night shifts (6pm – 3am).
- Brisbane and Melbourne: Friday and Saturday night shifts (6pm – 3am) and Saturday and Sunday day shifts (10am – 6pm).
During peak periods (ie XMAS holidays/major events) the area manager may also offer rain/shower credit during non-weekend periods.
Ie, if the 5:00pm forecast on Friday in your area says “rain“, the Friday night shift will be cancelled; if the local area 5:00am forecast on Saturday says “rain“, the Saturday day shift (10am – 6pm) will be cancelled.
When rain credit is issued, the area manager will text all riders – if you don’t get a text it means the shift has not been cancelled.
Shower credit: If BOM predicts anything apart from rain (ie patchy rain, rain easing, light rain, shower, thunderstorm), the shift will proceed as normal. This can still include wet weather, so GC may give shower credits at the end of the weekend, based on the amount of rainfall recording during the weekend when riders were working (see shower credits table below).
If a rider chooses to cancel his/her weekend section of the lease (due to illness or concern about the weather prediction), any credit will be based on the regular cancellation policy. You cannot cancel weeknights (Sun – Thur nights).
Shower table and conditions: Shower credits is calculated according to the following table:
Rainfall |
Credit |
0mm-1.5mm |
0% |
1.6mm to 2.5mm |

2.6mm to 3.5mm |

4.6mm and over |

How much credit is each shift worth?: Please ask your area manager what the current credit/shift breakdown value is – it changes according to seasonal changes.
Note: credit can only be used on GC leases – it cannot be refunded with bond.
Breakdowns
GC does not give credits for breakdowns (spare cabs are available at the depot in the case of a breakdown).
Spotters credit (referring a friend)
At times riders who introduce a friend to GC (ie, your name is included in your friend’s application form), receive spotters credit once the new rider has spent more than $500 on leases. Ask your manager if spotters credit is currently being offered.
Note: credit can only be used on GC leases – it cannot be refunded with bond.
Cab damage
If a rider damages a cab he/she must pay for the repair fee if the damage is not considered to be natural wear and tear (eg tyres, gear cables). The rider is charged if the cab leaves the depot intact and returns broken. The rider is charged if:
- he/she damages the cab
- a customer, a pedestrian, a car or anything else damages the cab
You have full responsibility for the safety and care of your cab. Regardless of who is at fault, the rider is responsible for the repair fee.
In most situations 100% of the repair costs (including replacement parts and labour) must be covered by the rider. In certain situations GC may decide to pay for 50% of the damage, however this is decided by GC on a case-by-case basis. The fee is applied to the last recorded rider of the cab – if you find a damaged cab at the depot but you still need to ride that cab you need to send a txt to your area manager including a photo of the damage before your shift commences. This must occur before your shift commences to avoid being charged the damage fee repair bill.
Payment: You will be advised by the area manager how much you need to pay for the repair. You need to pay this amount into the GC acct calling it ‘your name’ plus a short description of the damage ie ‘wheel’). Payment for the damage must be made into the GC acct before you can book another cab.
